About Paul

Paul’s Background

Paul started his career as a freelance work rider at race yards & with pointers around Lincolnshire. It was over these six years, his patience & skill in riding tense, sensitive & more complicated horses was formed.

From here, Paul's talent was spotted by Edward Nicholson, owner & breeder of the famous 'Curtis' horses. Working with Edward for three seasons, producing & competing the young event horses up to Intermediate level.

Through Edward's ownership of Flint Curtis, Paul was introduced to Oliver Townend where for three years, he again was producing & competing the young horses. As Paul's reputation grew, he then moved to Piggy March's yard again focusing on the production & competing of the younger horses.

Nina Barbour approached Paul, leading to him to take an 18 month sabbatical from Piggy's yard to focus on refining his show jumping skills. During this time, as well as having the younger show jumpers, Nina also supported him by giving him two older horses to compete. It was with these two he successfully competed to 1.45m, having the opportunity to tour around Europe including competitions in Belgium, Holland & France.

After returning for a season to Piggy's, Paul made the leap to set up his own business in 2018

Sporting Ambition

Having been fortunate to have had such a unique background & experiences, this has given Paul an excellent foundation to realise his ambition of taking horses up the levels ultimately to 5*.

This ambition was the motivation behind him setting up on his own & the start of him building a small string of horses with the aim of making this aspiration a reality.

Training Philosophy

Despite his sporting ambition, Paul has an intuitive ability to connect and train each horse to their maximum potential, while ensuring they have a sound, happy & long career.

'Patience, routine, consistency.

Giving each horse the time they need, treat them as individuals, even making minor adaptions to their training & care can be the key to unlocking potential'
